A
speeding vehicle skipped the red signal and hit a monkey which was trying to
cross the road leaving it critically wounded. A distress call was forwarded
from our friends at Eco Echo after which a rescue team was sent for help.
Rescue
team from RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare) lead by GM Rushil
Bhatt and rescue team members Niraj Bhanushali, Sanjay Makwana, Vivek Shetia
and Hiren Chudasama soon reached the location to help the monkey in distress.
Soon after reaching the spot and locating the injured animal it was found that
rescuing the animal was a tough task as it was a full grown adult which was
injured and aggressive.
The
team soon made few strategies and attempted to catch the animal, but only after
five failing attempts the team managed to safely rescue it. Soon an intimation
was given to the forest department and the monkey was taken to Thane SPCA for
its treatment. It is still recovering but has fractured one of its hand. It
will now have to be shifted to some other place which has a larger enclosure
for its recovery.

Rushil
Bhatt, General Manager at RAWW said,
"It
is not an easy task to rescue monkeys, our city needs a proper monkey rescue
team of the forest department as a priority. The callers told us that the
forest department refused to send any help for the monkey which was
disappointing".
The
city needs a real rapid rescue team from the forest department which will
actually rescue the wildlife in distress. All the cases which happen in the
city are under the jurisdiction of the territorial wing of the forest
department and it is found that maximum rescues are done and attended by the
organizations working in the city.
